[BLANK] is a powerful kaleidoscope of one hundred seemingly unrelated, freely combinable scenes – a scenic experimental setup that episodically revolves around crime, punishment, and the hope for what comes after, within the context of familial constellations. All characters find themselves caught in the machinery of a system that focuses more on administration than on healing. Violence begets violence, and silence meets institutional failure. And yet: There is also closeness, tenderness, dark humor – and the unwavering desire to escape the eternal cycle of violence and abuse. Between psychorealism and fantasy, linguistic intensity and stagnation, intense characters emerge in a state of catatonia, deeply muted yet radically loud. Connections and intersections develop between the varying stories and their characters. However, they all share a perspective on humanity, the search for social cohesion, and the hope for change. Sophia Aurich will engage with Alice Birch's powerful, multifaceted text, using her keen sense for emotional and profound nuances.
